Vespidae is a family of wasps that includes all the known eusocial wasps and many solitary wasps. These medium to large insects may be light brown, reddish brown, or black with yellow markings. When rest, their fore wings often folded longitudinally, never folded horizontally. In this family some wasps build paper nest while others build mud nest. Females can often inflict painful stings.
