European Peacock

The European Peacock is an Eurasian butterfly in the family
Nymphalidae, and found in Europe and Asia. These butterflies have brown bodies and rusty red wings, at each wingtip it bears a distinctive, black, blue and yellow eye-spot. The wingspan: 50 – 55 mm. They live in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens. The caterpillars are shiny black with six rows of barbed spikes and a series of white dots on each segment. Males are territorial.
This is a very common species in
Lithuania.
