England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom, and has a population of over 51 million. The name „England“ is derived from the Old English name Engla land, which means „land of the Angles“. The Angles were one of the Germanic tribes that settled in Great Britain during the 5 – 11th century. A piece of jawbone (between 41,000 and 44,000 years old) excavated from a prehistoric cave in England is the earliest evidence for modern humans in Europe. England has two land borders, one with Scotland which runs for 96 km and the other with Wales which runs for 257 km. As part of the United Kingdom, the basic political system in England is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary system. London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom.
