Kingdom of Belgium


The Kingdom of Belgium is a federal state in Western Europe, and has a population of 11 million. Belgium has land borders with France (620 km), Germany (167 km), Luxembourg (148 km) and the Netherlands (450 km).

A constitutional monarchy was established in 1831. Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers, mostly Flemish (about 60%), and the French-speakers, mostly Walloons (about 40%), plus a small group of German-speakers. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the de facto capital of the European Union (EU).
