Kingdom of Belgium
The Kingdom of Belgium is a federal state in Western Europe. The country has land borders with France (620 km), Germany (167 km), Luxembourg (148 km) and the Netherlands (450 km). Neanderthal fossils dating back to at least 100,000BP found on Belgian territory.
A constitutional monarchy was established in 1831. Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers, mostly Flemish (about 60%), and the French-speakers, mostly Walloons (about 40%), plus a small group of German-speakers. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the de facto capital of the European Union (EU).
