Latvia


Latvia is a Baltic state in Northern Europe. The state has four land borders: with Estonia which runs for 343km, with Russia (276km), Belarus (141km) and Lithuania (588km). Since ancient times Latvia has been at the cross-roads between East and West, North and South. The Latvians are culturally related to the Lithuanians. Incorporated into the USSR in 1940, it re-gained its independence in 1991. With a population of 2.2 million, Latvia is a member of the European Union and NATO. The most famous travel spot is the capital Riga, a World Heritage Site.
