Kernavė was the first Lithuania pagan capital and today is famous for its traditional Rasa, the pagan goddess of summer’s greenage and flowers, festivals. It is 35 kilometers (22 mi) from Vilnius. The first inhabitants settled here as soon as the glaciers retreated around 12 000 years ago. The town was first mentioned in 1279, when it was besieged by the Teutonic Knights. In 2004, Kernavė Archaeological Site was included into UNESCO world heritage list.
